In highly abrasive formations, the drill bit body usually wears out faster than the alloy teeth.
The main failure modes of DTH drill bits are chipping and cracking, while wear is the secondary failure mode.The field traps and cracks of the drill bits are mainly caused by unreasonable carburizing process, too deep infiltration layer, too high carbon concentration, thick quenched tissue, low hardness of the matrix tissue after quenching, and excessive surface residual austenite.
The DTH drill bit adopts the process of low-concentration carburizing + high-temperature tempering +–secondary quenching + low-temperature tempering, which can better solve the problem of block trapping during the use of high-pressure DTH drill bits.
