Introduction to tapered drill bits

A tapered button drill bit is a rock drilling tool used in mining, quarrying, tunnel and construction drilling operations. It is also called a tapered drill bit or a button drill bit.

The tapered button bit has a conical shape, with a smaller diameter at the base and a larger diameter at the top. There are several hardened steel buttons or inserts on the front surface of the drill bit, shaped like a cone or pyramid. These buttons are made of hard and wear-resistant materials, usually tungsten carbide, which can withstand high temperature and pressure.

During drilling operations, the tapered button drill bit is rotated and pushed into the rock formation. The button at the top of the drill bit breaks and crushes the rock to form a hole. The tapered shape of the drill bit helps maintain the diameter of the hole, while the button provides better penetration and faster drilling speed.

Tapered button drill bits are available in various sizes and shapes to meet different drilling needs. They can be used in conjunction with handheld drilling rigs, pneumatic drilling rigs, or hydraulic drilling rigs, and can be used to drill holes in various types of rock formations, including soft rock, medium rock, and hard rock.
