Troubleshooting water well drilling rigs

The speed at which mud flows out of the drilling hole slows down or stops. What’s happened?

The drill bit and mud have stopped circulating. There are some projects that may contribute to this. The first thing to check is the suction filter of the mud pump.It may be clogged or the hose may be curled. You may need to idle or turn off the mud pump engine to clean the filter.Another possibility is bit blockage. When drilling in clay, it is important to proceed slowly and make sure that the drill cutters are always seen returning from the drilling.Usually, the only solution to a clogged drill bit is to remove the drill pipe and drill bit and clean it manually.

After adding the drill pipe, the drill bit is always stuck.I have to raise it a few feet high to start turning. What’s happened?

Most likely, when the cycle stops to add the next section of pipe, drill cuttings accumulate in the drilling hole and deposit around the drill bit.In this case, please run the rig for about 10 minutes without drilling to flush the cuttings in the drilling hole. You may also need to thicken the drilling mud to remove drill cutters more effectively when drilling.

Even if I put a whole bag of bentonite in a 55-gallon bucket, the drilling mud will not thicken. Why?

Check the pH of the water. It should be nine or more to ensure proper hydration of bentonite. If the pH value is too low, please add calcium carbonate (soda ash), which is usually available in swimming pool supply stores.Remember to allow the bentonite to be fully hydrated for about 30 minutes to form the drilling mud.The best way to mix is to use a mud pump.Put the suction and discharge hoses into a bucket of water and run the pump while slowly pouring the bentonite powder.Suction around the bottom to suck up any lumps. It usually takes 10 to 20 minutes to fully mix.

Hydraulic oil leaked from my electric drill. What should I do?

Use a piece of cardboard or wood to pass it under the area where you suspect a leak may occur to find the leak.If there are stains when the parts fall off, there may be leaks.Do not search with your hands or fingers, because pressurized fluids may cut or hurt your skin.If a leak is found, tighten or replace the leaking joint. The torque table in the drill bit user manual lists the appropriate values and the various sizes of accessories and fasteners.
